Safe Environment
St. James Church is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all and follows the Safe Environment policies and guidelines established by the Diocese of Syracuse and Bishop Lucia.
In accordance with diocesan policy, all clergy, parish employees, and volunteers age 18 and older who serve in liturgical ministries are required to complete Safe Environment Training and undergo a background check before serving. Liturgical ministries include:
- Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
- Music Ministry (Cantors, Choir Members, and Instrumentalists)
- Sacristans
- Adult Altar Servers
- Liturgical Ministry Leaders
- Lectors and Readers
- Commentators
- Greeters
- Ushers
- Homebound Ministry
To remain in compliance with diocesan policy, Safe Environment credentials must be renewed every five years.
How to Register for Initial Safe Environment Training
- Go to Initial Safe Environment Training
- Scroll to the calendar at the bottom of the page.
- Find the location, time and date you can attend on the calendar.
- Click on that location/time/date on the calendar, and a window will pop up with a link saying “click here to register”
- Click that link and fill out the form and submit to complete registration.
How to Register for Recertification Training
- Go to Recertification Safe Environment Training
- Scroll to the calendar at the bottom of the page.
- Find the location, time and date you can attend on the calendar.
- Click on that location/time/date on the calendar, and a window will pop up with a link saying “click here to register”
- Click that link and fill out the form and submit to complete registration.
