We are filled with gratitude and joy as we celebrate the ordination of Deacon Jan DeAngelo to the Permanent Diaconate for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. Deacon Jan was ordained on April 25, 2026, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop Douglas J. Lucia, together with nine other men who answered God’s call to a life of service.
Following his ordination, Bishop Lucia assigned Deacon Jan to our parish at St. James, where he now serves our parish community through the ministries of the Word, the Altar, and Charity.
Many parishioners already know Deacon Jan through his years of faithful service at St. James. As our longtime music director, a theology teacher at Seton Catholic Central, and a dedicated volunteer, he has generously shared his gifts with our parish and the wider community. Throughout his years of diaconate formation, his desire has remained simple: to serve Christ and His Church wherever God calls him.
Deacon Jan’s lifelong commitment to serving others makes him a wonderful witness to Christ’s love in our parish and beyond. Please join us in congratulating Deacon Jan on this joyful milestone. We thank God for his generous “yes” to this vocation and ask that you keep him, his wife, and his family in your prayers as he begins this new chapter of ministry. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen him as he serves the people of St. James and the Diocese of Syracuse.
